Smashbox Double Exposure Mini Eyeshadow Palette Review

Reviwe of the Smashbox Double Exposure Mini Eyeshadow Palette

I picked this beauty up in my latest haul from Mecca Maxima and I thought I'd let you know my thoughts around it.

Packaging wise it's super slim and compact (about the size of a credit card), plastic and lightweight and has a small mirror in it making it the perfect eyeshadow palette to take away on holiday.  Shade wise I find there are a good mix of colours that could be used for both day and night looks.

The shades are silver, peony, quartz, veiled, midnight, haze, copper and espresso and all eight shades are cool toned and can be used either wet or dry.

I wouldn't say I'm highly impressed with this palette.  The shadows are lacking in the pigmentation department and just don't pack a lot of punch on the eyes.  I guess I'm just looking for a little bit more colour pay-off than these are delivering.  Using the shadows wet does give more pigmentation but to be honest I find it a little finicky to have to wet a brush etc and blending becomes a bit of a drag when you use shadows wet so I'm not a big fan of that.

If you're after muted tones of these colours well then maybe this palette is for you.  If not I'd save your money for something with better quality.

$35(AUD) from Mecca

5 Top Tips for Dry Skin this Winter

I suffer from dry skin and I'm sick of reading articles telling me that the only thing I need to do is drink 2 litres of water a day and my dry skin will be fixed.  Even though drinking 2 litres of water every day is an excellent thing to do it is just not simply the answer for dry skin,  Here are my top tips for keeping your dry skin tip top in Winter that do not include drinking more water.

Avoid Hot Showers
Having the water in your shower set too hot is a sure fire way to strip oils and dry out your skin.  Try turning down the heat in your shower a little and keep them to around 5 minutes where possible.  If your skin appears red following a bath or shower the water is too hot.

Never put your face directly under the shower stream
While we're on the subject of showering, never ever ever put your face directly under the shower stream.  It doesn't matter what skin type you have putting your face directly under the shower stream can cause all sorts of problems from broken capillaries to dry skin (even if your skin isn't dry in the first place).  Use a wash cloth or just cup the water from the shower in the palm of your hands and splash onto your face.

Use Hydrating Sprays
Hydrating sprays are a great way to top up hydration during the day especially if you work in an air-conditioned office. They're a super quick easy way to get instant relief when you're skin is feeling dry and tight. My top pick is the Alpha H Moisture Boosting Facial Mist.

Use the right products
Everyone should be changing up their skincare at least twice a year no matter what your skin type.  In Winter you need to make sure your products are rich and hydrating and you may want to consider adding in a heavy duty serum.  My skincare routine goes like this: Cleanse, Tone, Serum, Oil and then Moisturise.

Add Oil
Following on from my previous suggestion if you suffer from dry skin you definitely need to incorporate an oil into your skincare routine.  I use Rosehip Oil at night and Jojoba Oil in the morning.  I find the Jojoba Oil a little lighter than the Rosehip and it sinks straight into my skin making my makeup application a breeze.  These oils are also great to use for any dry patches you get on your body and as a bonus cuticle oil.

So there are my top five tips for looking after your dry skin this Winter, I hope you found them helpful.  Thankfully our Winter is nearly over and in no time at all we'll be basking in the lovely warm Australian sun all over again :)

My Favourites for July 2016

My top 5 beauty products for July 2016

July bought a range of new products to me as it was my birthday and I went on a little shopping spree.  It was hard to narrow it down to just five products but I managed ha!  This month's favourites feature four makeup products and one skincare.  This is mainly because I've fallen all sorts of head over heels for makeup again and I've being working on finding my perfect base.

My top 5 beauty products for July 2016

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette
Full review and swatches can be found here but basically this was a love at first sight palette.  I've been loving the Rose Spritz blush and the Champagne Pop highlighter.

Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum
I received this trial sized serum in a beauty box recently and was really surprised how quickly I saw results with my skin.  I used this morning and night and it lasted for around 2-3 weeks.  My skin was noticeably smoother and more even.  I've got a few other little samples to use up but I'll definitely be picking up a full size of this soon.

Poni Cosmetics The White Knight Mascara
Oh My God.  I need to do a full review of this mascara as it's become my holy grail and absolutely blown all other mascaras I've used out of the ball park.   This is a tubular mascara and the first one of it's kind that I've tried.  The very best part of this mascara is that it doesn't smudge, ever!  It also provides great volume and length and comes off like a breeze at the end of the day.

Physicians Formula Nude Glow Touch of Glow
Another one I've reviewed previously this has been great for brightening my under eyes and giving a dewy glowy finish to my base.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation
I picked this up in my never ending search for the perfect full coverage foundation for my dry skin and while it doesn't reach holy grail status it's definitely a current favourite.  It applies smoothly and does give a good medium to full coverage.  It lasts fairly well but I wouldn't say the full 12 hours as claimed.

Love to know what products you've been loving lately.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette Review & Swatches

If you saw my recent haul post you'd know I picked up this beauty from Sephora recently.  This is actually my very first Becca product and I have to say it was love at first sight.  The packaging of this palette is the first thing that drew me to it - the sturdy white and gold casing and the full mirror on the inside makes for a stunning eye catching product.

Inside you'll find three blushes and two highlighters, all powder formulas.  All three blushes are very pigmented - a light hand is definitely needed when applying these. The three shades are Rose Spritz - a shimmery Rose Gold, Amaretto: a matte rosy brown and Pamplemousse: a matte bright pink.

The two highlighters are to die for.  Champagne Pop is heavily hyped up in the beauty industry and I can see why.  This is a soft white gold shade with peachy undertones and sits naturally on the skin giving a dewy luminous glow.  Prosecco Pop has warmer undertones with a gold finish and is slightly darker than Champagne Pop.

All five products in this palette are stunningly beautiful.  Pigmented, long lasting, beautiful colours - I really am very impressed with this palette.

Beauty Haul - Mecca Maxima and Sephora - July 2016

a photo of beauty products hauled from sephora and mecca maxima

It's been awhile since I'd been able to pop down to Sydney and do some proper shopping so I took the opportunity to book in a girls shopping weekend for my recent birthday.  We were supposed to be shopping for clothes but I just knew I wouldn't be able to resist visiting Sephora and Mecca as it had been such a long time since I'd been in-store.  We went to Macquarie Park in Sydney as this shopping centre has both Sephora and Mecca Maxima as well as an awesome variety of clothes shops.  The pictures below show what I picked up but I'll also run you through each one with prices etc.

Taking out the Trash: Empties Jan to June 2016

Used and empty products from January to June 2016
Empties - First half of 2016

There's something to be said for people who look through other people's bins.  Creepy maybe? I prefer to look through people's mail myself haha.  Over the last few months I've saved some (not all) of my empties to show you.  I love reading post's like this, because to me, it shows the products people are actually using rather than just doing a review on a product they were sent or have only used a few times.  Here are some thoughts on the products I finished.

Alpha H Liquid Gold
Holy Grail - I use this chemical exfoliant 2-3 times a week to keep my skin clear and glowing.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel
Shit I love this stuff so much!  It's bloody expensive for a body wash but it does last me a long time - probably because I only use a small amount because I know how expensive it is ha!

Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Skin Primer
This is one of the first primers I ever used and loved and it really is a beautiful product.  Personally I find the Face of Australia Primer to be exactly the same (for a quarter of the price) so I would normally purchase that one over this one.  I think I received this as a gift for my birthday last year.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi Purpose Dry Oil
An amazing oil that smells divine and can be used on body, face or hair.  Love it.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer
I use this everyday as a concealer and brightener under my eyes and on the bridge of my nose.  I've already purchased a new one.

Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper
This is a great eye primer, it helps eyeshadow really stick and last all day without creasing.  I would repurchase but I'm trying out the Urban Decay one at the moment.

IT Cosmetics YLBB Waterproof Lip Liner
Another Holy Grail product that I've already repurchased.  This lip liner is the perfect my lips but better colour and lasts a really long time.  Sometimes I just wear this with a clear balm or gloss over top.

Go-to Face Hero Oil
I'm a serious Zoe Foster Blake fan girl so I really want to tell you that this Face Oil is amazing but it just wasn't the case for me.  Packaging is cute and it smells great but it just didn't give my dry skin enough hydration.  I'm just sticking with my normal Rosehip Oil now.

My Favourites for June 2016

These are a few of my favourite things.... June 2016

Picked out a few products that I was loving last month to show you.  Skincare wise to combat my dry skin I've been alternating between the Alpha H Liquid Gold and A'kin Rosehip Oil at night.  It seems to be doing the trick by exfoliating off the dry skin with the Liquid Gold and repairing and hydrating with the Rosehip Oil.

The Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm is my new go-to primer and I'm absolutely loving it - you can read my review here but it's silky soft, super hydrating and makes foundation super easy to blend.

On my recent trip home to New Zealand I picked up two single Mac eye shadow pans in Satin Taupe and Grain and I wear them most days for a simple defined eye look. To top it off the Maybelline Baby Lips Candy Wow Cherry is the perfect tinted lip balm for cold days and chapped lips.

I'd love to know what products you're loving this winter - feel free to comment or link down below.
