Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette

Kat Von D, MetalMatte, Metal Crush, Matte, Eyeshadow, Swatches,
Kat Von D, MetalMatte, Metal Crush, Matte, Eyeshadow, Swatches,

Have you ever had a dream about a certain makeup product?  Maybe I'm just showing how much I think about makeup in general but from the moment I saw the Kat Von D MetalMatte palette online I just loved it and it even featured in one of my dreams a little while back.  I was madly waiting for this to pop up online as I'm a 2 hour drive away from my closest Sephora but it never did (and only just has this week).  Luckily for me I ended up attending the opening of the new Sephora store at Warringah Mall on the Northern Beaches of Sydney which gave me the perfect opportunity to see and swatch this in real life and subsequently purchase it.

Kat Von D, MetalMatte, Metal Crush, Matte, Eyeshadow, Swatches,

The Kat Von D MetalMatte palette features 22 shades, 9 on the top row which are the Metal Crush formula and 13 matte shades on the bottom row.  The Metal Crush shadows are some of the most pigmented shimmery eye-shadows I've come across and they give a very intense true to colour application.  The matte shades are also super pigmented and buttery soft.  The shades in the palette are unique and give a nice change to the neutral toned palettes I'm drowning in although if I'm completely honest I'm not sure how much I'm actually going to use this palette on a day to day basis.

Let's talk about the packaging.  This is an extremely large palette, something I just didn't grasp until I saw and held it for myself in store.  The logo on the front was drawn by Kat Von D herself and is an ambigram; it reads Metal one way and when you flip it upside down it reads Matte.  It's housed in a thick cardboard case and has a large mirror inside.  You can see in the photo below compared to the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette just how much bigger than most this palette is.

Overall this is an impressive palette by Kat Von D.  The high contrast colour offering, the quality and pigmentation of each eye-shadow and the unique packaging make the MetalMatte palette an awesome buy for any makeup lover and definitely those who need more bright colours in their collection.

This retails for $95AUD and is currently only available in Australia in Sephora.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this palette in the comments section below.

*I purchased this palette with my own money at a Sephora Media Preview however I was given a 20% discount.  This does not affect my review in any way.  Honesty Always.

My Favourites for November 2016

My favourites are a bit boring this month and I've featured a couple of products that I've mentioned in favourites before.  I'm using this as a kick up the bum to use some different products this month.

Zoeva En Taupe Eyeshadow Palette
I am so in love with this palette.  There's a great variety of nude shades and there's not one colour that I don't use.  The shadows are so buttery and pigmented which is why I just can't stop reaching for it.

Colorpop Supershock Cheek Highlighter
I placed my first Colorpop order last month during their free shipping sale and have been pretty impressed.  The texture of this highlighter is quite different and has an almost creamy feel to it.  I still use a powder brush to apply and it is a really awesome highlighter.

Moroccan Oil
Still loving this little beauty and the soft, shiny hair it gives me.

Holika Holika Sweet Cotton Pore Cover BB Cream
02 Natural Beige
I purchase this Korean BB Cream from ebay after seeing some recommendations for it and it's blown me away.  It cost around $10 and is a neutral toned, full coverage foundation that sits beautifully on my skin and gives the most amazing matte finish.  Added bonus of SPF30. In love!

Essence Exit to Explore Blush
01 My Heart is Beating Like a Jungle Drum
I can't place the scent of this blush but it's an amazing sweet scent that fills my nose every time I open and apply this blush.  This Essence blush is incredibly pigmented, blends super easily and leaves a matte finish.  At around $8 this was another great value buy.

I'd love to know what products you loved last month.

Sephora Warringah Opening Day and Haul

Pic Credit: Sephora Australia Facebook

On Thursday 17th November Sephora opened it's fourth store in NSW and I was lucky enough to be invited to the Media Preview a couple of hours before the store officially opened.  There was a huge queue of about 500 people waiting to get in store (and get some freebies) and with a DJ playing the atmosphere was totally buzzing.

I felt totally spoilt to be able to be one of the first in the store and I had the best time playing with all the brand new testers.  We were also given a 20% off voucher to spend on the day so I couldn't resist picking up a few goodies.  I was so undecided about the Kat Von D Metal Matte Palette but I'd literally had a dream about it and in the end I just couldn't resist.  It's a beautiful palette but to be really honest it's not that practical for me.  I also picked up a Sephora single eyeshadow in Satin Corset No281.  This is my third Sephora single eyeshadow now and I've been super impressed with the shimmer range as they are so buttery and pigmented.  Following on in my eyeshadow trend I picked up the 3CE (does anyone know how to pronounce that brand name) Long Wear Eye Crayon in Pleasure.  I've never tried anything from this brand so I'll be really interested to see how this wears.

My haul from the day
The staff in store were super helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make sure I was assisted without being overbearing.  They also snuck some trial and sample size goodies in my bag at the checkout which always puts a smile on my face.

My haul plus freebies
The opening of Sephora at the Warringah Mall was such a fun event and if you live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney I urge you to head over and check it out.  The whole mall is amazing and with a Sephora, Mecca Maxima and an H&M it's got everything I ever wanted all in one place.

Where do you hope the next Sephora store will open?  I'm hoping for Adelaide because I used to live there and I know how sorely needed it is!

July to September Empties

Okay okay I'm extremely late in posting about these as September is now a distant memory but I'll fill you in as quick as I can about these products that I managed to finish or am throwing out.

St Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub
I always have one of these in my bathroom as it's a great basic face and body scrub that doesn't cost the earth.

Clinique Moisture Surge
This was a trial size moisturiser that I fell in love with.  Will definitely be repurchasing.

CROP Natural Face Primer*
Not a fan at all - only used a few times - am throwing out!

Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil
I'm a massive fan of everything Clarins and this body oil is no exception - it's so luxe and applies amazingly.  I would use this all the time if it wasn't so bloody expensive.

A'kin Rosehip Oil
I pretty much always use an oil after my serum and before my moisturiser - this is one of my faves.

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser
The best foaming cleanser for dry skin.  Actually does not dry out your skin but still leaves you with that fresh clean feeling.

Lancome Genefique
This was a cute little sample that lasted about a week.  I didn't notice anything special enough to convince me to buy it.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm
My holy grail lipbalm.  I am never without this little pot of gold.

Simple Eye Makeup Remover Pen
I was excited about this because I thought it would be awesome for fixing up makeup mistakes and evening out liquid eyeliner but whilst it is good for the first use, after that the wand becomes dirty so if you want to use it again it just transfers any dark colours on the wand back onto your face.  Doh!

Maybelline Master Shape Eyebrow Pencil
Didn't like.

Australis Eye Pencil
I've had this for waaaay too long.  Bin.

Empties: Mascara Cull

Mascara cull - empties September 2016

I'm terrible at throwing products away but last month I took a look in one of my drawers and quickly saw I had a collection of mascaras that definitely needed throwing away.  There are seven here in total and I won't bore you with a review on each one, I'll keep it short and make a winners and losers list below.

Maybelline Full n Soft
Maxfactor Masterpiece Transform
Essence Get Big Lashes Waterproof

Crop Natural Volumising Mascara
Loreal False Lash Wings Waterproof
Maybelline Plumped Up Colossal Volum' Express
Loreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture

I'm pretty fussy with my mascaras as I'm prone to them smudging and I need some good volume on my already curly lashes.  Recently I found my holy grail mascara so I won't be repurchasing any of the mascaras here in this post.  You can read my full review here of my new favourite Poni Cosmetics Mascara.

Don't forget mascaras only have a life of three months once they're opened so keep an eye on your current stash and throw any old ones away.  It's the perfect excuse to try out a new one!

My Favourites for September 2016

Top five favourite beauty products for September 2016 including Zoeva En Taupe palette, Estee Lauder Double Wear, Morocanoil, Jojoba Oil and Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate

September seems to have gone by in a flash but it's starting to warm up now and Spring is well and truly here teasing us with some warm days and then turning it all around with a cold rainy day.

Here's the Top Five Beauty Products I loved last month.

Estee Lauder Double Wear
In my search to find the perfect full coverage foundation I ended up picking up this foundation again.  It's been a couple of years since I used it and I'd put off buying it because I thought it wouldn't suit my skin now that it's more on the drier side.  As soon as I put it on I couldn't remember why I'd ever stopped using this.  Estee Lauder Double Wear is definitely my Holy Grail foundation, it gives flawless coverage, lasts all day and doesn't go cakey!!

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate
I'd seen heaps of great reviews for this moisturiser but had never got around to purchasing it until I placed an Adore Beauty order last month and added it to my cart on a whim.  It's a beautiful moisturiser that feels so lovely and hydrating.  I've been using it as a primer under the Estee Lauder Double Wear and it applies like a dream leaving a soft dewy finish.

Moroccan Oil
Another product I used to love and haven't repurchased for ages this trial size came as a bonus in my Adore Beauty order and I fell in love all over again.  I know it's the silicones that give my hair that soft silky feeling but I love it and it helps keep the frizz at bay - something I definitely need help with.

Zoeva En Taupe Eyeshadow Palette
A mix of shimmer and matte shades this is the ultimate soft nudes palette for cool toned peeps like me.

The Jojoba Company 100% Jojoba Oil
This is a beautifully hydrating oil that isn't quite as heavy as my normal Rosehip Oil.  It sits really well under both my day and night cream and doesn't interfere with my makeup at all during the day.

Well that's another month done and dusted... only 2 more months till Summer, I can't wait!!

Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil - Travel Size Set of 5 - Delirious

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil - Travel Size Set of 5 - Delirious
I picked up this set in my recent Mecca haul as I'd heard really good things about these eyeliners and I thought it was a good opportunity to try out a few different colours without purchasing them all fullsize.  I don't use coloured eyeliners a lot so it seems a bit silly to fork out $33 for each individual shade when this kit for five mini sizes was only $48.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil - Travel Size Set of 5 - Delirious

Unfortunately this review is not a positive one and I have a few different reasons why.  I'll review each shade individually.

"black matte"
This is really pigmented and really black.  Unfortunately it just doesn't stick to the eyes.  It is an extremely soft eyeliner meaning it's hard to get a precise line and if you attempt to blend it out with a blending brush it just blends right off your eye.

"a smoky black with blue and green sparkle"
This looks absolutely nothing like the green that's shown on the box and that pissed me off the most about this set.  The green shown on the box looks like a bright forest green colour when in actual fact this is more of a khaki green and hardly shows up at all on the eyes

"deep metallic purple with shimmer"
I'm still searching for a really good purple eyeliner that actually shows a true colour.  Similar to the green this just doesn't show up on the eyes and turns into more of a muddy brown when blended.

"bright metallic blue with shimmer"
This is the best of a bad lot.  This is an actual blue eyeliner and shows up fairly well but as with all the eyeliners in this set they are just too soft and when blended they just come straight off.

"deep metallic brown with burgundy shimmer"
Hard to see the burgundy shimmer they're referring to here - this is your basic brown eyeliner and is probably the only one that shows it's true colours on the eyes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil - Travel Size Set of 5 - Delirious swatches

Overall I would say don't waste your money on this set.  I certainly won't be wearing these eyeliners at all which is a total waste of the $48 I paid for it.  I just hope this review stops someone else wasting their money.  I'd love to hear from anyone who's tried the full size of these liners to see if its a common theme with all their liners or if they've just cheaped out with their mini travel set.

I bought mine from Mecca Maxima.  More details can be found at www.mecca.com.au
